Police Drop Drunk Out of Town

When the Springfield Police got a call about two local drunks fighting in the middle of the street, they drove to the scene and found Donald and Jeff.

    “Move on or we’ll lock you up,” said the officers. When Donald and Jeff cried that they had no place to go, the cops put them in the back seat of the car and drove them out past the City limits to a rural, isolated area and dropped them off.

    Jeff lay down and fell asleep but Donald wandered off toward the noisy sound of traffic stumbled out on a busy interstate highway. He was soon hit by a car and woke up in the hospital with multiple fractures and a concussion. When he was discharged a month later, he hired a lawyer and sued the City for one million dollars.

    “The police should have arrested Donald and put him in jail, and not dropped him off outside the City near an expressway,” his lawyer told the judge.

    The City attorney disagreed. “Donald’s excessive drinking caused his injuries, not the police,” he said.
